August “Cocoa” Creppel, Principal Chief

August Creppel, more commonly known in the community as "Cocoa", was sworn as the newly elected Principal Chief of the United Houma Nation on June 16, 2018. Before beginning his term as Principal Chief, Mr. Creppel served on the Tribal Council representing District 8, which is the majority of the Westbank of Jefferson Parish. On July 9, 2016, Cocoa was elected to be the Vice Principal Chief of the United Houma Nation. Cocoa is a fireman with the Jefferson Parish Fire Department and operates his own small food truck business on the weekends. Cocoa, a men's traditional dancer, has been a fixture at southeastern powwows for years; however, recently he is becoming known for his powwow food truck services selling fry bread and gumbo.
